Welcome to issue 11 of the SSRadio newsletter
|
Welcome to issue 11. This week we announce details of two massive names joining the station this month, give you details of the third edition of the Cerrone podcast, take five with Grant Nelson, let you know about some exclusive new shows starting, and tell you about our latest competition to win a copy of the new Reelgroove compilation CD. Phew!
OK, so when we left you last time we were about to board the plane for Chicago, and we promised to be back in a couple of weeks... Well, we were having so much fun that those weeks soon turned into months, and so we can only apologise for the lack of our weekly updates since then!
But fret not, we are back with a vengeance to bring you a bumper edition of our (not so!) weekly newsletter. And the first announcement we have to make is that this month we are excited to welcome not just one, but two, massive names to the station!
The first, coming to the Deep & Soulful channel, has been known under such guises as Wishdokta, 24 Hour Experience, and Bump & Flex - yep, it's the man who has been responsible for shaping the sound of dance music for nearly 20 years, Mr. Grant Nelson! Starting next Thursday at 20:00 UK time, we'll exclusively be bringing you his fortnightly Housecall radio show.
Secondly, joining the ranks on the Tuff & Twisted channel, is the man responsible for one of the biggest and best-loved House tracks of all time, Kings of Tomorrow's "Finally". That's right, the legendary Sandy Rivera will be bringing you his brand new Blackwiz Show, starting next Friday at 19:00 UK time, and aired fortnightly.
The legendary French disco king Cerrone - a name that is also synonymous with the soulful house scene, having had many of his hits remixed and sampled over recent years - continues his adventures in podcasting this week with episode #3 of his very well received podcast, exclusive to SSRadio.
With his first episode, Cerrone introduced us to some of his favourite disco cuts from the '70s. With his second instalment, he continued this musical journey into the '80s, bringing us a selection of his favourite tracks from the that memorable decade. This time, the selection spans both decades, and is choc-full of classic cuts from those bygone days. And once again for maximum authenticity, the podcast is hosted by the man himself in French!
You can listen online to all episodes here, or subscribe to the podcast to make sure you don't miss another edition.
This week's big news is that we have managed to tempt the legend that is Grant Nelson onto SSRadio!
Starting next Thursday at 20:00 UK time, Grant will be bringing you the fortnightly Housecall show on the Deep & Soulful channel.
To celebrate this, we took the opportunity to ask him a few questions to help our listeners understand a little more about the DJ/producer and head-honcho of such prestigous record labels as Nice'n'Ripe and Swing City...
-
Describe the music you play?
Deep, Soulful, Bumpy, Funky, Uplifting & Down 'n' Dirty house music!
-
Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?
Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire) is probably the single biggest influence on me.
-
What are your current top 3 tracks?
In no order:
- ATFC "I Called U"
- Knee Deep feat. Cathy Battistessa "All About Love"
- Bah Samba "Live In The Summer" (Andy Ward Sunshine Mix)
-
What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?
There have been lots, but watching 3,000 Italians lose it as the sun came up over an open air venue in Rimini in the late 90's was pretty special!
-
Tell us something we don't know about Grant Nelson?
As a teenager I was kicked off a motor mechanics course for "encouraging witchcraft"!
You can catch Grant's new Housecall show on SSRadio's Deep & Soulful channel every other Thursday at 20:00 UK time, starting 8th October 2009. And if you can't catch it live, you can of course listen again and podcast at your leisure.
