Each issue we'll feature a different DJ from the station and ask them a few questions. Kicking things off is the legend that is Mr Andy Ward...

1. Describe the music you play?

   For the most part, on my podcasts, I play deep/soulful house, from driving dubs to vocal delights. In clubs I take it a little tougher, getting percussive and bassy wherever possible.

2. Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?

   Masters at Work, Grant Nelson, Joey Musaphia... these were amongst my heroes in my early days. Strictly Rhythm helped me shape my musical style, as did MCA and AM:PM. Today I am inspired by so many people it wouldn't be right to name a few.

3. What are your current top 3 tracks?
   1. Andy Ward & Sofia Rubina - Streets of the Sun (forthcoming on Soul Heaven)
   2. Louie Vega & Johnny Dangerous - London Roots
   3. Groove Asassin - The Workout (forthcoming - unsigned)
4. What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?

   Early morning, sun rising above Ibiza harbour for Soul Heaven @ El Divino, playing Sean Escoffery "Days like This" to a hardcore crowd still going strong... Doesn't matter how many times I recall that party, it always brings back the goosebumps.

5. Tell us something we don't know about Andy Ward?

   Despite my hard efforts to promote myself and my DJing/productions, I actually don't enjoy being in the spotlight. I see some people that crave fame, it's not a good look. That's definitely gonna shock anyone that's ever seen me out and about!

You can catch Andy's show, The Vocal Booth Club Sessions, on SSRadio's Deep & Soulful channel every Saturday night at 21:00 UK time, where he bridges the gap between old and new soulful house music, bringing some great productions to people's attention so that they can go out and buy them.
